Tell us the model year, not the family

Almost every question we cannot answer in one reply arrives without a model year. A tempered glass screen protector is cut to a body, and manufacturers move a camera window or a sensor cut-out between generations while keeping the name. The glass itself is the same specification across the range, so the fit is the only variable — and the fit is decided entirely by which device you actually hold.

Send the exact name from the settings screen and, if you can, the case you intend to use. With those two facts we can say whether the cut clears your front camera, whether the sheet stops short of a curved edge, and whether the case lip will ride over the protector and lift it after a few weeks. Without them we are guessing, and a protector fitted on a guess is worse than no protection at all.

Two things we will not say by email

We cannot see a device through an email, so we will not tell you that a sheet will survive a particular drop. Impact resistance is a property of a whole stack — the glass, the adhesive, the case, the surface it lands on — and a sheet that cracks has done its job by keeping the damage off the original screen.

We also will not claim a matte or privacy sheet protects better than a clear one. The glass underneath is identical; only the top coat changes. If scratches during a year of pocket use are what worry you, any finish in the range handles that equally.
