Tempered glass pays for itself as the sacrificial layer: keys, grit and a dropped set of headphones meet the protector instead of the original screen. We cut this one for the MacBook Air 13.6 at 13.6", so the sheet lands inside the bezel and leaves the speaker slot, the sensor window and the home gesture area clear. It goes on by hand with the guide frame from the box, which holds the sheet square while it drops. Once the glass is down, the surface hardness rates 9H on the pencil scale, which is the level that shrugs off sand and metal in a pocket.
In use the finish is a privacy finish that narrows the viewing cone so side-on glances get a dark panel. The oleophobic coat keeps smudges from setting, so a dry microfibre pass clears the screen. Touch and typing feel the same as bare glass. When the protector finally takes a hit, the damage stays in the sacrificial layer and the original screen comes out clean — then the sheet lifts off and a fresh one goes down. Clean the panel with the alcohol wipe first and lift dust with the sticker; those two steps decide whether the fit is bubble free.
